Explain five key changes of mass media in the last decade.

The mass media is changing over time. We have seen huge changes in mass media over the last decade. Not only mass media but also the way we consume mass media has been changed in the last decade. Mainly mass media changing for technology. Five key changes of mass media that I have witnessed in the last decade given below: 

1. Audience Fragmentation

Now media focusing on an individual audience that is one of the key changes in mass media. Because of audience fragmentation, media have to focus on the individual audience. Different people want to see different types of programs. Such as children want to watch cartoons, old people like news, young people like movies or songs. That is the reason to be audience fragmentation. So, now media making their programmers with a focus on individual people. Because of that broadcast media is no longer broadcast, it has become narrowcast.

Moving Online

 Another key change in mass media is that the mass media platform is trying to move on online. Now a few people read newspapers. Most people read news through online platforms. The majority of people do not watch television, they watch everything through their phone on internet platforms. That's why online versions of TV channels and newspapers have been created and also radio makes their programs live on the Internet.

3. Audience Control

Increased audience control on mass media is another key change in mass media. People can watch or read what they want. Now people have the power. It is possible for technology. Through the internet people can watch or read anything when they want, they have full control over it. Now There are many TV channels, newspapers, and radio stations, that's why people have many choices. If anyone likes news, there are many news channels for them. Now the audience can choose the exact nature of their entertainment. 

4. Nature of Contents

The nature of mass media content has changed which is the fourth key change of mass media that I witnessed.  Now the nature of mass media programs or content has changed a lot. We can see the way of presenting news has changed. Now we can see different kinds of new shows, which was not before. Because of audience taste, the nature of content has changed. The nature of drama has changed, now we can see unrealistic things in drama, which was not before. Now songs became music videos. We can see short stories on those music videos. 

5. Hyper Commercialism

Now we can see a huge amount of advertising, this is the fifth key change in the media. During the last decade, the number of advertising and the duration of advertising is increased. Now People have to watch more than 10 minutes of ads in 30 minutes shows. Now, Changed the way ads are displayed. we can see Ads come in different ways. Ads are displayed in the form of banners or motion graphics. During the news, at one point the news presenter said something about any kind of product, which is a way of advertising that was not before.

In conclusion, five key changes of mass media that I have witnessed in the last decade are media focusing on the individual audience, the mass media platform is trying to moving on online, increased audience control on mass media, the nature of mass media content, and hyper-commercialism. All of this has been changed, based on audience interest.
